the GazettE - 癡情 [Chijou]
癡情

蛇は花を舐め安息捩じ込む
吐息の数も忘れないでね?

逸らさぬその目 狂気這わせて笑う
愛するが故 只 其れだけのこと

I want to monopolize you
Lump of the envy
I want to monopolize you
Forever unchanging

何度 肌重ねても貴男が滲む所為
この痴情は深く もう戻れぬ

締め上げた手が吐息で濡れてる
僅かに感じた脈を数え忘れ

髪を撫でるような錆びた香りが
優越感と縺れる

何度 肌重ねても貴男が滲む所為 深紅散らし 狂わせて

痴情の果てに書いた「二人」は
そう・・・孤独じゃないと笑いかけてるようで

心躍る

Blind love

The snake licks the flower, thrusting into the calmness [1]
Don't forget the number of our sighs, ok?

These eyes that won't turn away Crawling and laughing in madness
Loving you is the reason Nothing else It's nothing but that

I want to monopolize you [2]
Lump of the envy
I want to monopolize you
Forever unchanging

No matter how many times we put our bodies on each other this is the reason why you get distorted [3]
This blind love is too deep we cannot turn back anymore

Your restrained hands get wet from the sighs
I forget to count the pulse that I felt faintly

Like gently carressing your hair, a rusty scent
Mingles with a feeling of superiority [4]

No matter how many times we put our bodies on each other, this is the reason why you get distorted The deep crimson is scattering and driving me mad

The "two" that is written at the end of this blind love
Seems to say "yes indeed... this is not loneliness", with a smirk

My heart is dancing [5]

--
T/N: 1.
Obvious sexual imagery. The whole song is full of sexual imagery.
2. The melody/rhythm is very aggressive in this part of the song before it gets calmer immediately again! This is no coincidence.
3. Not at all sure about this line! I guess I've looked at it for too long ^^;
肌重ねる "to put the bodies on (top of) each other", again what is obiously meant is sexual intercourse. The "this" refers to this sexual intercourse. At least that's how I interpret it.
滲む means to run (ink, color), to blur, etc. but also with a sense of "penetrating something". Therefore I didn't really know how to translate this line ^^; Maybe it's two things in one... The person gets distorted/blurry because of the penetration.
By the way, Ruki uses 貴男 to write "anata", which is the male form of writing "you". The addressee is therefore most probably a male person.
4. When I translated the song I started to think more and more about how this love actually functions. Is it one sided? Or are both sides emotionally involved? I, personally, think that it's the latter. It's just written from the POV of the superior person. Maybe I just missed it, but there are no real indicators that the inferior person is violated in some way. Actually it sounds to me as if both sides want it that way. I think that the love of both is blind, in an unhealthy and obsessive way.
5. Ruki writes "odoru" which actually means "to dance", but I also found that in connection with heart it could also mean "to pound, to throb (from excitement).

Please read this comment for some other ideas on how to look at this song >w<

Needless to say, I love this song.

I was uncertain about this song: I do not like the way they sing the chorus. But reading the text and understanding the meaning of it made me change my mind :)

Thanks for the translation <3

I was also unsure about this song, but after reading the translation I can see why the song sounds the way it does. Thanks so much for translating this ^^

This might be long, sorry! ^^;

You know what, this song just killed me.
I shivered when I first heard the full version, both the lyrics and the music is so intense!

And I'm glad someone did a good translation of this song's lyrics, I found some that didn't even make sense and seemed like they just came out of google translate, and this song definitely deserves more than that. <3

First of all, Ruki's take on love in his lyrics never fails to amuse me. And I completely adore how he uses female pov in many of their songs.

On to the lines, [肌重ねる] I've thought a lot about this line too, and I guess you're right. "Putting our bodies on top of each other" is a good way of saying it. Gahh, I just love how Ruki uses his words. Since 肌 can also mean "skin", the imagery makes this line so intense. <3

Then, [滲む] I think of this as "blurring, confusing, or corrupting" the addressee's ideals or mind. Since it's "blind" love anyway, you don't see or think as clear as you used to. So, "this" here can also refer to the "blind love", not only the "intercourse/ penetration".

Then, about whether it's one-sided or mutual.. Personally I think there's a hint that it could be one-sided blind love too. I've been wondering about this, and somehow it gives me the impression that this song is written not from the superior person's pov (male), but from the more inferior person (the female). The lines "I want to monopolize you. Lump of the envy" gives me this image that the woman is blinded with love and envy (of the superiority the man has?) at the same time. Also in the lines [髪を撫でるような錆びた香りが 優越感と縺れる] it will make sense too if the "superior feeling" and the "rusty scent" here belong to the man as well.

But then again, it's very subjective because in this song, like in most informal Japanese sentences, there is no explicit "subject". So we can't be fully sure, I think that's the fun part of it, we get to imagine our own stories.

And the last, [心躍る]. I think this line is very poetic and will therefore be okay if it's translated as "My heart is dancing". "My heart is pounding" is a good way of perceiving the line, but personally I think the first ("My heart is dancing") can give the same poetic feeling as in the original lyrics. =)

Last but not least, I LOVE this song too!
And you did a great job translating this amazing lyrics. *showers with strawberry Pocky*

Waaah, when I saw you commented on this I was like in panic because I thought I did everything wrong and there we go! XDD But now I'm even more happy to get such a lovely and long comment by you! QQ;

This song really killed me too... I was blown away when I heard it for the first time! Now whenever I have my playlists on shuffle and this comes up, I can't help but press the repeat button all the time >>;

I was kinda saddened by those translation, too, so I at least tried to put it into some more coherent words, but there will always be imperfections >>

Ruki's just a real poet haha XD I mean, he could've just said "No matter how many times we sleep with each other" or something like that, but nooo.. he uses a word that can mean body and skin and 重ねる kind of really expresses how one thing is on top of the other (and therefore superior?) .. I just love it!

And about 滲む I think you're absolutely right! Haha it's so obvious and I haven't even thought about this! orz

And then about the mutual/one-sided thing.. this is what I don't really get because it's kind of mixed up...
For example, 吐息の数も忘れないでね? almost sounds like an order to me, and not like, for example, a plea. And the word "monopolize" kind of has a strong sense of superiority to me, so I immediately thought of the superior person saying it XD But of course, as the inferior person you are probably also more afraid of losing the other, and therefore more envious if anyone else comes close to them >_< That's also why I think that the love could be mutual =3
And haha, I'm glad that I was not the only one thinking that the "rusty scent" belongs to the man 8D Phew~
It would make sense if there's only one POV, but I'm still not sure whose POV to take QQ; We really can't be sure about anything haha.. orz

And yes you're right, actually I shouldn't put my interpretation of that sentence into the translation >> I will change that >w<

Aaah, this has gotten long too ;;" But thank you so much again <3 your comment has made me really happy! and thanks for the strawberry pocky! XD *noms them*

That mutual/one-sided and the POV are my favorite aspects of this lyric. Well, beside the kanji play. <3

I agree with you, that [吐息の数も忘れないでね] does sound like a plea. I think it's nearly impossible to understand this song fully without hearing from RUKI himself. I wonder if some of the recently released magazines have explored the theme of this song deeper.

Gahh, RUKI's such a genius! *worship his brain and his ability to make use of his dictionaries*

Aww, I'm happy too to find someone to discuss this song with!!

The first time I heard this song, I was really intrigued - in a good way, of course. The melody itself sounds so captivating, sinister, and twisted with the heavy emotion-feeling to it... the drum segment and guitar play in the intro sounds so dark and depressing... and when I read the lyrics, I appreciated the song more...it was perfect for the emotions and meaning conveyed. Can't wait to see them play this one live.

Of course, kudos to the translation. Really great job! I'm trying to learn Nihon as well, and you're really inspiring me to soldier on with the dreaded Kanji :)

I think you should post this translation at gazette_lyrics, Toki. What I interpreted it as sounds stupid now. I'm sorry I didn't see this before. Got a link to it from ruki_candy's post. You've brought out the meaning really well. Thank you :)

But mine sounds really simplistic and juvenile after reading how nicely you've brought out the sexual aspect of the song. I'm myself not sure if what I think is what is really meant in the lyrics. I can PM them to you if you want... You can take your choice about whether or not you want to post them at the community~ I completely understand if you decide not to.

Even without having read your translation I've already decided <3 I'd be super happy to post your translation at g_l! I bet your translation is 94385693456934 times more beautiful anyway >w

thanks for this translation. <3 this lyric is really interesting to understand, the meaning is really deep. I don't know japanese, but your conversation with ruky_candy is very helpful to understand some parts in a better way =)

I LOVE THIS SONG!! Ruki is such a poet ;_; +cries+
lscyuyulscyuyu on October 6th, 2011 05:35 am (UTC)
Just from my POV.. maybe cause I have felt something like this before aha (not the sex part tho LOL) but I think it is probably from the more inferior woman's POV. And this is most likely a one sided love.
My take on this would be: the woman loves the man more than he does for her, therefore he is more superior. Since he is more superior, she would be the one thats scared of losing him = she wants to monopolize him.
I guess everytime they have intercourse would be the only time that he would "love" her, which is probably why its called blind love. Cuz I guess in a way the man THINKS he is in love with the woman when he is just in love with the intercourse. And possibly the only time the woman feels superior ("Mingles with a feeling of superiority") is the intercourse part, and make her want to 'monopolize' him for herself.

I just think the woman is in denial. Knowing this isnt real love, but she is just 'blinded' by love (of the intercourse). Although that could apply for both the man and woman.

YEA LONG POST. BUT JUST MY TAKE ON IT.
I might be totally wrong. And this would make me a complete idiot.

Oh gosh my comment might come inappropriately late for an entry this age. I can't get this song out of my head because of the meaning I can hear behind it. But I can't really understand many parts... And I came to one of your translations like so many times.

I keep wondering what 貴男が滲む所為 could mean. I first didn't understand why you put 'this is the reason why you get disorted' because it somehow doesn't fit for me with the first part of the sentence (translating 'no matter how many times..., this is the reason' while it should have a structure more like 'NO MATTER how many times... , this/you are (STILL) ... ' but maybe Ruki just thought he'd say it differently. I dunno! If he did then damn, he is smart lmao)

So I kind of thought that it could be 'no matter how many times our bodies/our skin touched, you are (now) the reason why it (/everything/we) is distorted'. Maybe 貴男が滲む所為 could be translated in the same structure as 貴男が髪が長い ... so like literally 'you have long hair' and 'you have the reason/you are the reason'... maybe not though lol.
I haven't yet thought of all the other parts.... such a wicked song, I'd love to figure it all out one day!
